Dobermans

I am a Doberman fanatic. I have been the proud owner and companion to four of these intelligent and beautiful dogs. They have been an enduring passion that spans forty years. I was first introduced to the Doberman breed in 1980 by my cousin Sue, she too shares the same love of the breed. The Dobie is an aristocrat, elegant and loyal, I knew this was the dog I wanted.

I cannot overemphasise the health benefits of having my four legged companions. I have always enjoyed going out into the forests and open country for long walks with my dog , exploring the Nature and in all weathers. It is an activity that feeds my spirit. They have been as important as any medical therapies in keeping me well and physically active. They have been a constant source of joy.

Clyde

1982-1994

When I married in the spring of 1982, my sister asked me what would we like for our wedding present. Would we like a cooker or a fridge she enquired. No, we would love to have a Doberman puppy for our home. Our wish was granted and Clyde came into our lives. The marriage lasted five years, Clyde was with me for over twelve years. Loyal, obedient and welcomed everywhere I took him. I do not recall any other wedding gifts we received but Clyde will always have a home in my heart and memory.

Duke and Echo

2005?-2016    2008-2015

Not long after Clyde's death I relocated to London, not the most conducive of environments to keep a dog. I made a promise to myself that when my circumstances permitted, I would have another Dobe. That time did not come till June, 2007. A phone call from the Dublin dog pound informed me that they had a male Doberman; would I be interested. If I was interested I would have to come that afternoon. He was on doggy death row, due to be put down the next morning if no one claimed him.  I made  the journey to the pound and met Duke. It was love at first sight. Duke was somewhere between eighteen months to two years old.He was a risk, not knowing his history and why he had ended up at the pound. It was a decision I never regretted. Duke had to be trained, he only knew his name and the sit command. It would take me 18 months to train him to the level of  obedience I desired.

Echo was the first and only female Dobe I have owned. She came into our home in January, 2009. I was reluctant to have two Dobes, but my partner was very keen and wanted a female. My cousin Sue, once again nudged me in the right direction when she commented that there was only one thing better than one Dobe and that was having two. The two became inseparable, and earned me the nickname 'Two Dog Man Walking'. I relocated from Connemara to Germany in late April, 2014 bringing Duke and Echo with me.

Murphy

Heading 6

Murphy

 2017 - 2022

Every Doberman I have lived with has had their own personality, Murphy had his unique character that made him very special. It has been my experience with my Dobes that they mature, behaviour wise between their second and third years. As he matured he developed a sensitivity to my Parkinson's. My ability to walk greatly improved with Murphy at my side.

Murphy sadly was with us for only five years. He was in his prime when cancer claimed his life. He has left a huge hole in our home and in our hearts.
